The kids are out of control. She is feeling like in the trap of dangerous fishes.
b) ...she´s battered by noises...
She is destroyed by the kids and the noise of them.
c) ...the edges of the maelstrom
She is on the edge of something (it might be a stamina). She is almost falling down to her weakness because she cannot handle it anymore.
d) The children dissolve in a squirming puddle...
The children are like worms that are disturbing her all the time.
e) In this part of town, buildings are pressed thin by other building, rooms are compressed to corridors.
The sentence is a personification and tells us that there is no so much space on the streets.
f) Sharp voices ricochet off the walls.
She is struggling with the strong noises that get louder all the time.

Well answered, but are you sure about omniscient...think about how many characters you really get to know well.
